Resisting in Grief at Mouches Volantes, Cologne

Solo exhibition
April 17 – May 30, 2026
Mouches Volantes, Cologne
Whose loss is acknowledged and valued shows us whose life is considered worthy of being lived.
Following Havuz (2024), Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu explores necropolitics and the disposability of life through the cemeteries of “Kimsesiz”—those who “have no one.” In Turkey, at least one exists in every city, where abandoned dead are buried: victims of femicide, queer people, refugees, Kurdish people, premature babies, underclass communities, and sometimes perpetrators. There are no names—only numbers. Bureaucratic systems collapse different lives into one category, masking violence and producing erasure.
Resisting in Grief opens a shared space of witnessing, where mourning becomes political imagination and resistance.
From the Lines of Difference brings together queer, feminist, refugee rights, and Kurdish movements reclaiming the deceased through archives, “queer grief,” and activist interviews.
An Act of Accompaniment creates a ritual space activated through performance. A stone is washed, tended to, and held between care and strain.

Which lives are granted the right to be mourned, and which are not? The multidisciplinary practice of Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu engages with this question. At its centre is an examination of how necropolitics and biopolitics in Turkey determine which human lives are treated as expendable—that is, how political power determines that certain people may live while others must die. In their artistic practice, Leman investigates vulnerability, resistance, and the effects of exclusion and violence on the lives and deaths of marginalised, particularly queer, communities. Taking the so-called Kimsesiz cemeteries—whose name can be translated from Turkish roughly as “those who have no one”—as a point of departure, Leman turns their attention to the politics of death, mourning, resistance, and systematic erasure.
Can collective mourning be a form of resistance? And can remembering loss become a gesture of solidarity?
In the multi-channel video work From the Lines of Difference, shown for the first time at the project space Neun Kelche, Leman approaches the state-sanctioned erasure enacted through cemeteries from the perspective of resistance: queer, feminist, refugee, and Kurdish movements fighting to reclaim the dead and for the right to mourn them with dignity.
But what are the consequences for a society when a group of people is marginalised not only in life, but also in death?
Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu addresses these weighty ethical and political questions in the durational performance An Act of Accompaniment, which draws on traditions of collective mourning in Southwest Asia. Over the course of seven days, the artist opens up a dialogue: during the performance, Leman washes a stone that stands in for the many lives that were unjustly laid to rest.

Love Letters From Deep Waters: Anger, Memory & Transformation

4-part somatic journey into the depths of anger, memory, and transformation.
Anger, like water, holds currents beneath its surface. Sometimes turbulent, sometimes still, always carrying the weight of what has been held for too long. This workshop series invites us to communicate with the parts of our bodies where anger resides, listening to their unspoken messages and finding ways to release what has been trapped.
Through guided movement, somatic exercises, performative scores, and journaling we will explore how anger moves within us and how it longs to be acknowledged. By attuning ourselves to its frequency, we will create pathways for transformation - allowing anger to shift, flow, and reveal its deeper layers.
The workshop series is also a space for connection beyond the self. Anger is often intertwined with loss, with wounds inherited from histories both personal and collective. Through the embodied dialogue, we will embark into a journey to write love letters from deep waters. With movement, breath, and vibration.
What does it mean to hold anger with love? To let it speak, move, and transform without fear of it consuming us? In this workshop, we will create a space where the energy of anger is neither suppressed nor unleashed recklessly, but met with deep listening, curiosity and respect, and a potential transformation.
By bookings through this page, you sign up for the whole series, taking place weekly on Monday evenings in October. You can also sign up for individual sessions here.

We warmly invite you to the opening of the group exhibition unbecomings at Zilberman | Berlin.
Curated by Misal Adnan Yıldız, unbecomings brings together works by Soufiane Ababri, Berk Akkaya, Hurricane Alexander, Ateş Alpar, Cibelle Cavalli Bastos, Filip Berg, Isaac Chong Wai, Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu, Pedro Gómez-Egaña, Gašper Kunšič, leo, Sārāh Mārtinus, Jonas Monka, İz Öztat & Ra, Sunny Pfalzer, Spyros Rennt, Denys Shantar, and Viron Erol Vert.
Embarking on a provocative exploration of queer revolt, unbecomings unfolds through a scenography that creates a liminal space between the familiar and the unknown, disorienting and reorienting the audience. By delving into the complexities of regressions, resolutions and intimacies, unbecomings emerges as a powerful and thought-provoking experience.
unbecomings is a curatorial whisper that stirs genderfluid noises, shadows, lights, colors, despite shame, guilt, silencing and isolation. Contact with the ‘objet petit a’ might be repaired, past traumas could heal, and human cells gradually renew. Against imposed binary systems, hypocrisy, and discrimination the gender fluidity with nonconforming revolt – though at risk – is universal.
The title of the exhibition is a poetic invitation, urging us to engage with radical feminist and queer thoughts tied to transition, transformation, alterly intelligences, and mutation. This exploration opens the door to discussions on 'unbecoming' – an untangling of living forms and societal expectations. It is about the joy of life, self-discovery, and the fluidity of gender. Most importantly, it is about our collective happiness, where gender and roles dissolve into shared experiences of being – unbound, unconfined, and unapologetically authentic.
In this exhibition, we explore the forms, narrative politics and abstracted spaces of unbecoming: to revel in the freedom of not being, and to imagine the infinite possibilities of queer futurity – towards the state of interconnection.
On the opening evening, the song unbecomings by Cibelle Cavalli Bastos, composed for the exhibition, will premiere. In accompaniment to the exhibition, Zilberman will publish a catalogue with essays contributed by Sārāh Mārtinus and Misal Adnan Yıldız.
