a place to die

2017 Performance

a place to die is a ritual; a research on and in the body, on and in the place to connect with a place they have been for the very first time, a question about home, death and rebirth, strength and wound, a space to grieve, a calling in for a community.

In a room with a ground spread with stones and straggling red rose petals, Darıcıoğlu draws houses with stones. After each stone, they prick needle(s) into their body. After each needle, they lay stones down above their body and lie down still for a while. After almost three and a half hours, they carry all the stones, including the ones drawn as houses in the middle of the room, to around the mirror. After lying down on the mirror, they lay the stones on their body with pricked needles. They light a candle near their head and place small candles among the stones above the needles for the audience to light.
